Coolant can do more than just cool

Schwäbisch Hall, October 2010

Regular replacement of the coolant protects against frost, corrosion and overheating

Thermal management expert Behr Hella Service recommends the regular replacement of radiator antifreeze as it not only protects against frost, but also against corrosion and overheating. Coolants are subject to a certain degree of wear, which is why vehicle manufacturers stipulate that they must be replaced at specific intervals. The coolant should be replaced every three years unless "long life" coolant is used. The ratio of water to antifreeze should be in the range of 60:40 to 50:50, which provides frost protection from -25°C to -40°C. The freezing point does not sink any lower at a ratio of 40:60 or more.

Undiluted antifreeze freezes at -13°C already and also no longer discharges sufficient heat from the engine at temperatures above 0°C. Both Behr Hella Service and Hella online provide further tips and detailed information about this and other topics in the Technical Information section in the Hella Aftermarket Club.

Behr Hella Service GmbH, Schwäbisch Hall:

The joint venture by the automotive suppliers Behr (specialist for vehicle air conditioning and engine cooling) and Hella (specialist for components and systems for lighting technology and electronics) deals with the global independent aftermarket for vehicle air conditioning and engine cooling. The joint venture combines Behr Service activities on the independent aftermarket and the air-conditioning sector of the Hella aftermarket organization. Behr and Hella each have a 50% share in the joint venture. The combination of Hella's global sales organisation with Behr's product know-how and the linking of activities in the field of vehicle air conditioning and engine cooling for the parts business is a consistent further development of the already existing cooperation between Behr and Hella in the field of climate control and front-end modules.
